A lot of people never think about their dogs being vulnerable to hot weather conditions. A fuzzy fur coat may keep your pooch happy when the ice and snow comes. He may never need a dog snuggie to roll around in the snow. But that same big and fuzzy coat can make him miserable when it gets hot outside. Even worse, it could threaten his health!

1. Make sure your pooch stays hydrated. Your dog can suffer from heat stroke just like you can. If you go for a walk, or even a drive, give him water. You can buy special doggie water bottles, use an ordinary one, or bring along a plastic bowl.
2. Don’t lock Fluffy in the vehicle when you stop, even for a little while. It gets hot fast! Take your pet with you into the AC, or else just leave your pet at home!
3. If you have to leave your pet outside all day, when the mercury starts to rise, be sure he has water, shade, and maybe even some additional cooling. You can buy accessories like cooking bandannas, beds, etc.

You might imagine a lot of mangy dogs around a prehistoric camp fire. The military use of dogs probably dates back as far as our friendship with dogs. There is documentation that ancient warriors used dogs, and so also dressed them up in protective clothing. A well trained canine companion was valuable, and they were protected.

Similar to military use, dogs were also used to help humans with law enforcement and resuce operations. Any clothes on dogs either protected them or marked them as a particular sort of service animal.

This practice certainly continues well into modern times.

• There are no snuggies for big dogs. The largest size you can buy on the market is only made for dogs that weight less than 30 pounds. That leaves many larger dogs out in the cold! Your cute little pug may be fine, but what about your full grown standard sized poodle?

There is one more reason you want to make your own snuggies. You may not like ordering things online or over the phone. Since these are “as seen on TV” dog snuggie products, you may not have the option to purchase one in your local pet store. When you make your own, you can avoid all of those concerns!

You can certainly produce these a lot more cheaply that buying them too. When you consider the price and the shipping charges, purchased out wear can get pretty expensive. When you can start making them yourself, you could create a couple for your own pups. You could also make them as gifts for some other pet owners you know and love.

Go ahead and turn your special friend into an elf, turkey, or valentine.

This can all be in good fun.Most dogs enjoy attention. A cute and comfortable dog costume can be a way for your pet to generate more attention from other people.If your pet does not mind wearing the costume, it cannot do any harm.

You need to shop with care. Think about these things as you shop for your dog. Make sure the outfit is fairly easy to clean because most dogs like to get dirty once in awhile. Make sure the clothing will be comfortable so your pet will enjoy wearing his new outfit. You should also find clothing that is easy to put on and take off. You do not want to wrestle with your dog every time you have to dress or undress him!

• The big flaw with the snuggies is that they only seem to come in sizes that wit fit very small to moderately sized canines. If your dog weighs more than about 50 pounds, you probably cannot get a good fit. Until the start making snuggies for big dogs, you will have a problem. If you have a poodle or Maltese you are probably fine. Your greyhound or dalmatian may be out of luck.

You may figure that only people need sweaters. After all, we are mostly hairless. Some breeds of dogs have a nice thick coat of hair, especially in the winter, and they are very well protected for cold weather. This seems fairly reasonable, but you have to consider a couple of things.

• Some breeds of dogs are pretty hairless. They were bred in warmer climates, and they will get too cold if exposed to chilly weather.
• Even hardy, cold weather breeds, may not be able to withstand freezing temperatures for long periods of time.

Big Dogs Are Mad For Snuggies Too!

As you can tell by the other pages on this website, we are in love with Dog Snuggies! However, most of our writers also have big dogs. We love Great Danes, Labs, and Golden Retrievers.  These dogs weigh 60 to 80 pounds, and sometimes even more.

It does not seem like you can buy Snuggies for Big Dogs at all! The large size, on the official website, does not even go up to 30 pounds.

Where Are Large Dog Snuggies?

Why can’t larger dogs, and their owners, enjoy snuggies too? Is there some problem that makes it difficult to engineer thse larger sizes, or do the people who make these incredibly handy dog blanket / sweater type deals just think that big dog owners will not ever want to keep their best friend comfortable and cozy too?

Maybe making a snuggy type article, for larger dogs, is a good niche for a handy craftsperson. Maybe the company is just testing their product with little to medium sized dogs. I am not sure. Does anybody have an answer to this question?
